Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5.5 11b5274b31 Docstrings and comments of the tests are in ASD-STE100
Each test docstring states the behaviour that the test proves, in the
simple present. No assertion message, test id, or other string literal
changed. Four statements now agree with the code: the Trace highlight
stays on the last row, a menu count, and two others.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5.5 b6e7cd5c16 The handhelds are named for their variant: picocalc-lyra and cardputer-zero
M5Stack makes three Cardputers and only the Zero runs Linux; the PicoCalc
takes several cores and only the Luckfox Lyra runs MeshTerm. So the bare
names were ambiguous, and every reference to the two devices now carries
the variant: the --platform values and MESHTERM_PLATFORM, the Platform
constants (PICOCALC_LYRA, CARDPUTER_ZERO), their lane decks and every
screen's picocalc_lyra_lane / cardputer_zero_lane, the font inventories,
the lane chips' theme styles, the scripts/ folders, the two chrome test
files, and the docs and CLAUDE.md that name them.

There is no alias: --platform picocalc is refused with the three real
choices listed, rather than falling back to the desktop layout. The
PicoCalc is auto-detected from its device tree, so it needs nothing.
What names hardware or a user's data keeps its name: the PicoCalc
keyboard's input-device name, its battery's sysfs supply, and the serial
profile the Lyra setup script writes. .gitignore follows the firmware's
folder, and the changelog keeps the words each release used.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5.5 6eb7d8f6bd Each handheld deals its own F-key lane, and the Cardputer Zero joins as a platform
A lane's keyboard-bound half is now a LaneDeck named by Platform.lane_deck: which
keycodes drive the slots, where the chips sit, how they are drawn, and which of a
screen's lane definitions it reads. Screens define picocalc_lane; cardputer_lane
follows it until a screen overrides it, so the two can part ways one screen at a
time. The Cardputer deck is Fn+4..8, Shift with them as F16-F20, eight-cell chips
centred over their keys in the fn key's orange-red and the Shift blue.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5 fc4406ba86 Only the reader removes a discovered setting; a read may only take it to n/a
A discovered row was dropped when a read came back as anything that could not
be its value, on the reasoning that the node's answer was the row's whole
claim to exist. The reasoning holds and the cost does not.

A catalog row that misreads costs an n/a and nothing is lost: the catalog
still names the key, and the next read puts the value back. A discovered row's
key is recorded nowhere else. Deleting it throws away the one thing about this
node that only the reader could have found, and they may no longer remember
what it was -- for a reply that misread rather than a key that went away. A
truncated line, a node answering mid-reboot, a stray frame correlated to the
wrong command, and the row is gone with no way back but memory.

So a read now takes a discovered row to n/a like any other, and Del is the
only thing that removes one. The board-swap case the automatic drop was for is
still served: the row reads n/a, which is visible and says what happened, and
forgetting it is a keystroke.

A dropped packet was never the danger -- read_settings folds only a reply it
actually received, and a timeout leaves the row alone -- but the rows it can
delete were never worth the ones it tidied.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5 a7d201f4da A setting you use on a node's command line becomes a row on that node's page
Third-party builds carry knobs the catalog has never heard of -- EasySkyMesh's
radio.rxps and reboot.interval among them -- and MeshTerm cannot know which
build a repeater is running without asking it. Asking is the whole problem:
every question is one paced round trip, so probing for a fork's keys would
spend a sweep on every node to benefit a few, and listing them outright would
leave dead n/a rows on everyone else's page.

So nothing is probed speculatively and the catalog does not grow. The command
line is already the only place those settings can be reached, so it is now
also where they are found: a get/set the reader ran, which this node answered,
earns a row on this node's page under Extra. The round trip was one the reader
was spending anyway, and no other node's page changes.

The two verbs are not equal evidence, which the firmware settles. handleSetCmd
compares each key with its trailing space -- "radio " -- so a longer key can
never land in a shorter one's branch, and an unknown one answers "unknown
config:". handleGetCmd compares a bare prefix, so stock firmware answers
"get radio.rxps" out of the get radio branch with a perfectly plausible
910.525,62.5,7,5. A catalog row survives that because its typing rejects it; a
discovered key has no typing, so a read is trusted only when nothing shadows
the key, or when the reply differs from what the shadow last said.

A discovered row's whole claim to exist is that the node answered it, so when
it stops answering the row goes rather than earning the n/a that only a
catalog key can -- which is what tidies up after a board swap onto a reused
identity. Del forgets one without waiting for a read, and asking the key again
brings it back. Its values are fitted to the lane the catalog's rows already
need, since the value lane is one width for the whole page.

prv.key is never stored, whichever way it was asked. The firmware answers it on
the serial console only, and a reply that reached us anyway must not be the
first place a repeater's private key lands in a file.

Two things fall out: get tx at the command line no longer leaves the TX power
row showing last week's value, since catalog keys now fold into the cache the
same way, and a discovered key completes at the prompt where it was learned.

A leading underscore says "internal to this file, don't import me", and the
column-age formatter and the node glyph table wore one while seventeen modules
imported them and CLAUDE.md named them as the one place each concept lives.
format_age sits beside format_ago now (prose age, column age), NODE_GLYPHS and
DEFAULT_GLYPH beside them, age_seconds with the ages. A mechanical rename, 140

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Fable 5.1 a8b69efa73 The repeater admin's node picker is a popup, gone before the admin page opens
The same shape TX optimize just lost, with one popup instead of two: the node list was
kept pushed as a hub under the password prompt and the admin page, so Esc from the page
landed on the list it was picked from — two places where there is one. A popup asks and
is gone: the pick is now a floating one-shot (session.select gains text's floating
flag, so a lead-in question draws as a box even as the only frame on the stack), the
admin page opens over the main menu, and a refused login re-asks the question with the
same node highlighted. admin_node_visit is deleted; nothing keeps a popup pushed now.

TX delay, direct TX delay and RX delay show, stage and send at one place instead
of two. Device config's RX delay had no rounding at all, so SettingSpec gains
the same decimals field the remote catalog carries, applied on parse and display.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5 74eabff25f A repeater setting its firmware lacks reads n/a, not ?
v1.15 matches get keys by prefix, so a key it lacks falls into a shorter
sibling's branch: get radio.fem.rxgain answers with the get radio line, and
gps on a board without its receiver answers "Can't find GPS". Neither is an
error string and neither parses, and an unparseable reply left the cache
alone, so those rows stayed on ?, which says never asked. Any reply that
can't be the setting's value now marks it n/a; only no reply keeps ?.

The fold itself rode along in 564ac0e; this adds the regression test, the
catalog's note on prefix-shadowed replies, and reflows a docstring line.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5 564ac0e6ac Both editor pages pick a location on the map above separate coordinate rows
Device config folded latitude and longitude into one Location row behind a
Pick / Type / Clear dialog. It now lists them as two rows, as repeater admin
always did. Above them, on both pages, a "Pick location on map…" row opens
the map picker and stages both coordinates at once. The map opens on the
position as staged, or as the device (or node) last reported it. It opens on
the mesh where there is no fix (0, 0 or unread), via map_screen.coords_or_none.

On repeater admin a picked coordinate is stored the way a CLI read would spell
it, so picking the spot the node already holds unstages rather than queueing a
no-op set. Typing a pair and the Clear button went with the dialog. Each
coordinate is typed on its own row now, and 0 in both still means no fix.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5 f27492b2e4 Device config carries the device actions and every setting the firmware has
The Device actions menu entry is gone: clock sync, backup/restore, the identity
key, reboot and factory reset are an Actions section on the Device config page,
which now takes the repeater admin page's shape. It is full-screen, titled with
the node's name and a staged count, and Apply sends in place, one value at a
time; a value the device refuses stays staged with its reason. Read settings
re-reads the device, and unread and blank values read ? and empty.

The settings were checked against the companion firmware (MyMesh.cpp). New:
client repeat, the radio command's trailing byte. Every radio edit now restates
it, because the firmware reads a missing byte as off and a retune silently
stopped a relaying companion. Also new: the auto-add hop limit, read off the raw
frame the library half-parses, and a row for each custom variable the device
reports. The firmware's own bounds now apply: a PIN of 0 or six digits,
path-hash modes 0-2, telemetry deny / by contact / allow all, 150-2500 MHz,
7-500 kHz, and TX power from -9 dBm.

Neither editor page slides its rows sideways any more. The Actions rows pin a
head block, which on its own turned on horizontal scrolling for repeater admin's
whole list and slid its setting labels out of view. SelectScreen(hscroll=False)
now holds against the rows, and both pages use it, so long rows end at the edge
the way Device config's always did.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5 c9325d0c5d Repeater admin is a full-screen page, not a popup over the node picker
The editor floated as a content-sized box over the picker it was opened from,
spending the frame's width on a backdrop while the reader worked through a
whole node's catalog. It now fills the frame like the local Device config
editor it mirrors; the picker, value prompts, confirms and progress dialogs
still float. The gallery gains a repeater_admin case at both platforms.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5 61dc9dc110 Every icon-led list measures its icon column, so no label starts a column early
The terminal draws some icons in one cell (↻ ⌨ 🗑 ✓ ✗ ⚠) and most emoji in two, so
a row written icon-plus-space started its words a column left of its siblings. The
fix kept landing one screen at a time. menus.align_icons now pads every icon in a
list out to the widest one, and menu_rows applies it itself, so a list built there
cannot misalign.

Hand-built lists are brought along: the courier outbox and entry actions, the
watchtower actions and rule popover, the record card's actions, the main menu's
Quit row and the device splash's action rows. The repeater admin's regression
test, dropped by a concurrent rewrite of its file, is restored.

tests/test_icon_alignment.py sweeps every gallery screen on both platforms and
fails, naming the rows and their start cells, when a list's icon-led rows start
their words in different cells.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5 79efc4b0e0 Repeater admin speaks the firmware's own CLI, every setting of it
The catalog was written from convention, and the firmware disagreed: the delays
are floats (0.5 showed as 0 and typing it back was refused), bw/sf/cr are not
keys at all (the radio is one `get radio` / `set radio f,bw,sf,cr`), the guest
password is readable, and path.hash.mode and twenty-odd others were missing.
It is now transcribed from CommonCLI.cpp, with a test pinning the key list.

Read settings asks each question once and leaves every row answered: a value,
`empty`, or `n/a` where the node's firmware lacks the setting; reads that got
no reply are listed. ^R (F3 Read) re-reads the highlighted row alone. The value
lane drops its age stamp. Delays round to two places.

↻ and ⌨ draw one cell among two-cell siblings, so the rows' icon-plus-space

every mark out to it, like channels and the node page.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5 92d31a3191 Every file is spelled the way the formatter spells it
`ruff format .` across the repo: 153 files, no behaviour change. This is the
second gate CONTRIBUTING.md promises, and until now it reported 154 files needing
reformat — so a first contributor ran the command the guide told them to run and
could not tell their own diff from the background.

Landed on its own, with nothing else in it, because a whole-repo reformat is only
safe to skip past in blame if it is provably nothing but layout. It was checked
that way rather than assumed: every changed file was formatted in memory and
compared by full `ast.dump()`, and 152 of 153 come out structurally identical
(the one exception was a docstring opening on a quote character, fixed in the
commit before this one). The string and comment token streams were diffed
separately, so a quote flip or an edited comment could not hide inside a
re-layout — five quote-style normalisations and sixteen implicit-concatenation
joins, all value-identical, and one commented-out line gaining the space after
its `#`. `meshterm specimen` is byte-identical on both platforms, and the suite
is 1888 green, gallery gate and `test_theme16` included.

What actually changed, in order of how much of the diff it is: wrapped calls and
signatures rejoin onto one line where they fit inside the hundred columns; the
magic trailing comma expands what it is there to expand; complex slices gain
their spaces (`[len(noise) :]`); a few redundant parens go. The tables that are
laid out to be read were fenced in the previous commit and are untouched here.

The aligned trailing-comment column is gone from about ninety lanes that were not
fenced — including the `heat.*` ladder in `MESH_THEME`, which cannot be fenced
where it sits. Every comment stays on the entry it describes, so nothing there
reads wrong; it just no longer lines up.

Add this commit to `.git-blame-ignore-revs`, which follows immediately.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5 40ecf5151d The tests' docstrings lead with a sentence too
The last 122 `D205` sites, which takes `ruff check .` to zero.

Same shape as the package pass and just as additive: these were a paragraph
with no summary, so each one gains a plain sentence saying what is being
asserted, and every word that was there moves down into the description. The
dense ones benefit most — `test_pathline`'s 23, where "A seam is one cell, not
two" now stands alone and the chevron mechanics explain it underneath, and
`test_tui`'s wide-glyph repaint test, whose seven lines on prompt_toolkit's
relative cursor now sit under the one line that says what the test pins.

Four module docstrings (`test_advert`, `test_gallery`, `test_platforms`,
`test_repeater_admin`) opened with "X tests: a, b, and c" and now name the
subject on the first line with the list below it.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5 71b16ec7b7 The annotations, imports, and dead locals answer to ruff
`ruff check --fix` over the whole tree, ahead of putting the linter in CI:
1977 mechanical fixes, overwhelmingly `Optional[X]` → `X | None` (1186 in the
package alone) and the quoted annotations that `from __future__ import
annotations` already made unnecessary, plus import sorting and unused imports.
Nothing here changes behaviour — the suite is 1885 green before and after.

Four findings were real rather than stylistic and are fixed by hand: a dead
`cells` range in `MapCanvas`, a dead slot dict in the heat-ladder test, a
`ProgressScreen` task handle nobody read, and a tab loop binding a `label` it
never used. The two `F821`s were quoted forward references to names imported
inside their function bodies — now declared under `TYPE_CHECKING`, which keeps
`test_performance`'s local import (it guards the startup import graph) while
letting the linter resolve the name.

412 findings remain and are deliberately untouched: they need a decision about
the rule, not an edit to the code.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5 bcf387c620 The test fixtures stop being a picture of one person's mesh
Every node in the suite was named after hardware on JP's desk: YUL-Cartierville
and YUL-Poly are repeaters he runs, two more were the BLE
companions, another his own handle, and a long tail of YUL-Far / YUL-Me / bare
YUL besides. A stranger reading the tests learned his callsign, his city and his
gear before learning what the tests check.

They join the family the suite had already invented for exactly this — Alice,
Lounge, Yagi-Repeater, hub-1: Hilltop-Repeater, Lakeside, Waymarker, Homestead,
and Hub for the 3d-keyed node. Hub is not a new name; test_device_config already
called that contact Hub, so the suite was carrying two names for one fixture.

Replacements are the same length as what they replace, so every width budget,
truncation assertion and gallery line is unchanged. The two map tests that type
a literal query picked `yu`/`yul` to match the old name; they type `hi`/`hil`
now, same length, same single match.

Left alone on purpose: the About page and the donate link, where the handle and
the repeaters are the point, the hand-drawn splash art, and the XIAO README
reporting what JP's own radio advertises.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5 9de428f6ca A cursor stops at the end of its list
Down off the last row wrapped to the first on a good third of the app's
lists, and the select screen shipped that as its default -- twenty-one
call sites had already opted out one at a time, each writing wrap=False
for its own reason. The reasons were all the same one, so the flag is
gone and clamping is simply what a cursor does.

The window follows the highlight, so a roll doesn't move a pointer: it
hauls the whole list back to the other end and flips its edge markers,
which reads as the screen changing under you rather than as one step.
Held-down arrows now settle at an end instead of looping past what you
were trying to reach.

The hand-rolled cursors came along: the trophy case's, the trace and TX
optimize action rows, the reorder list -- where the ungrabbed cursor
wrapped while the grabbed one clamped, so the same two keys meant
opposite things in the two modes -- a prompt's completion list, and a
dialog's buttons.

Tab is the exception, and it stays a ring: it has no reverse of its own,
so on the last chip it comes round or it dead-ends. Same for the three
picocalc F-lane chips that are single-key advancers -- Sort, the node
page's tab strip, the Time Machine's window -- where the lane offers no
way back.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5 f2a49c8e2d Editors keep their place too: rows change, the reader doesn't move
Six lists rebuilt themselves as a whole new screen every round, because their
content is data: an editor's rows carry a staged `current → new` value, its
title counts what is staged, the outbox loses the message it just sent, the
watchtower's log rewrites the row you acknowledged. Each approximated the cost
with `default=cursor`, which recovers only the cursor, and only while the row it
names still exists — the typed filter went every time.

SelectScreen.replace_items swaps the rows (and optionally the title) in place
instead. The place is kept by value, so the highlight lands back on its row
wherever that row moved to, and falls back to the same position in the list when
the row is gone entirely — which is what you want after deleting the row you
were sitting on. The filter rides along.

So the config editor, device actions, the channel manager, the courier outbox,
the watchtower and the repeater-admin editor all hold one screen for the whole
visit now, refreshed after each action. The courier's ticker is started once for
the visit rather than per round, and folds a flow's effect in immediately rather
than waiting up to a second for the next tick.

The admin node picker gains a `stay` form. Repeater admin used to draw a second,
identical SelectScreen as a static backdrop so the password prompt had something
behind it, then drop the list before the session; the real list stays up through
both now — so cancelling the password lands back on the node list rather than
bowing out of the flow, and leaving a node's admin session lands there too.
Administering two repeaters in a row is an Esc and a pick.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5 f870bff990 Node pickers: a repeater is still its own identity
The repeater-admin picker drew every name in the repeater violet, so a section of them
read as one node repeated — the one list in the app where telling two repeaters apart is
the whole point, and the only one that refused to.

Nothing regressed it; it was built that way. The row was `Text(glyph, style=type_style)`
with the name appended after, and a style on the Text *is* the row's base — Rich lays it
under every span, so the type colour that should have coloured one mark coloured the whole
line. The name never carried a style of its own to argue with it. The TX-optimize "measure
at" picker was the same row, copied.

So both build the row the way every other list of nodes does: the glyph takes its type
style as a span and the name takes `name_style(name, key)`, hued by the node's key like a
contact row, a watchlist row, a relay hop. That also puts the row back inside the selection
language — with no base style of its own, the cursor row's `cursor` white now reaches the
name span and folds it, which a type-styled base was quietly blocking.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 5 0a41303366 Lists: what stays overhead is the section you are in
Two things a grouped list has to keep in view while it scrolls, and neither one
was staying: the lane names that read every row, and the heading that says which
group a row belongs to.

The lanes come first. A column header means the same thing in every section, so
it is not a section landmark at all — it pins for the *whole* list, above any
heading, once it scrolls off (`Separator(pinned=True)`). It is drawn outside the
body slice, so it stays exactly one row: too wide for the terminal it ellipsizes
rather than wrapping and stealing a second reserved row from the content. And it
can now size itself — a Separator title may be a callable taking the render
width — so `column_header`/`Lane` lay each label over its own lane and hand back
the shorter form (DESCRIPTION → DESC) only for the lanes that actually overrun,
from the right, where the trailing lane is the only one with a cell to give.
`lane_header` is that header for `lane_row`'s lanes, shared by the two editors so
they head identical lanes identically.

The headings were the other half, and they were pinning the wrong row. Every
non-pinned separator was a candidate, and the rule takes the last one at or above
the scroll — so what pinned was whatever muted line sat lowest under the heading.
In the Trophy case that meant a discipline's *description* stuck to the top and
the heading itself never did; at the foot of any list, the blank spacer above
Back pinned a blank row. So heading-ness is explicit now (`Separator.heading`,
conferred by `section_heading`, which is why every hand-rolled `── … ──` in the
app — the main menu's categories, the chat picker's Channels/Direct, Trace path's
candidate and ranked lists — now goes through it, and why three lanes headers
that genuinely *are* their block's only landmark say so).

A landmark is also no longer one line but a block: a heading plus the separators
written immediately under it, before the section's first row. Prose written there
is the section's preamble — the Trophy case's "what this discipline scores" — and
it belongs overhead with the heading rather than scrolling away from the rows it
explains. The block hands its rows over one at a time as they leave, so the
heading pins while its description is still the top content row and the two pin
together once both are gone: what is overhead always continues seamlessly into
the body. It never takes more than half the viewport, giving rows up from the
end, so the row that says *which* section this is is the last one dropped.

The frame settles the scroll against however many rows come back rather than
assuming one, and re-asks after sliding the window at the bottom — a heading

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Opus 4.8 310783c6a3 Repeater admin: float the login over the node picker, not a blank frame
The admin-login password prompt ran on an empty stack (the picker was popped
when it returned), so session.text pushed a blank base and the prompt — and any
"wrong password" rejection — floated over an erased background.

open_repeater_admin now redraws the node picker as a static backdrop (extracted
admin_picker_rows, shared with the live pick so they can't drift) and keeps it
pushed across _login, with the picked node highlighted. The password box and the
rejection float over the picker, matching the device-picker and trophy-case
dialogs. floating=True stays on the prompt as a belt-and-suspenders fallback.

Also drop the inert floating=True on tx_optimize._resolve_password: that
resolver only runs on the scripted CLI path (PlainUi, no stack), so the flag
never did anything — the menu path logs in inside the pushed sweep screen.

Jean-Pierre MartineauandClaude Fable 5 aef80d18bb Repeater admin: set up remote nodes over the mesh
A new Device management entry for administering repeaters and room
servers. The shared credentialed-first picker (extracted from TX
optimize) chooses the node, login runs on remembered passwords with a
one-time prompt otherwise (forgotten on rejection), and the editor
lands in the local device-configuration screen's exact lanes — but
speaking the node's text CLI through a new public
Device.send_remote_command, which brings the repeater-only knobs the
local editor never had: TX delay, Direct TX delay, RX delay, airtime
factor, advert intervals, flood max, repeat, guest password.

Reads cost one paced mesh round trip each, so the editor never
bulk-reads on open: values show what the last read said, age-stamped,
from a new per-node remote.json cache; Read settings refreshes them
under an abortable progress dialog and Apply sends the staged sets
the same way, folding confirmed values back into the cache and
keeping refused ones staged. Advert, clock sync, password change, and
reboot run as confirmed popups.

The Command line is a readline-style screen onto the node's raw CLI:
per-node history persisted across sessions (↑↓ recall, adjacent-dupe
suppression, capped), Tab completion over the known verbs plus every
catalog get/set spelling with ghost-text preview, one command in
flight at a time. The simulator grows a full repeater CLI so all of
it drives against --mock, and a scripted one-shot
(repeater-admin <node> <command…>) covers automation.
