Two preferences in the Display group: "Author spacing" (auto, on, off;
default auto) and "Spacing from" (the smallest terminal, in rows, that gets
the blank line with auto; default 24). The test reads the real rows of the
terminal before each paint, so a small desktop window drops the line as the
Cardputer Zero does, and a change applies at the next paint. The transcript
cache stores the spacing, so a change draws the lines again. The CLI
manual's sample of `preferences show` is the real output again.
