Apache-2.0 does not require per-file headers, but a file lifted out of the tree carried no marking at all. One comment line, first (or right after a shebang), on every .py under meshterm/, tests/, packaging/ and scripts/, plus the extensionless SPI bridge; tests/test_spdx.py keeps a new file from landing without one.

Turning markup off on the scripted console stopped a node name being read
as a style. It also stopped every tag MeshTerm writes *itself* from being
consumed — so `config export-key > key.hex` wrote a file with
`[muted]` and `[/muted]` around the private key that was supposed to be
its whole content. `PlainUi.note` is documented to take markup and now
resolves it to text, which fixes the leak wherever it is written rather
than only where it was found; the key itself is bare on both faces.
Escaping covered the newline, the tab and the return, and let ESC
through — a live colour run written into the caller's file, which is the
one thing "not a single escape sequence" exists to prevent. BEL was
worse: dropped in silence, so the printed name was not the advertised
one, and U+2028 ended the record like a newline. It is now every C0 and
C1 control plus the two Unicode separators, named escapes where one
reads and numeric everywhere else. Legitimate non-ASCII is untouched.
The covered-command list is now walked out of the Typer app instead of
kept by hand. It was six commands of forty-nine, and both violations
above sat in the forty-three — the `---` in `about` drawn as a rule the
width of a 16384-cell console, and the tags above. Verified by putting
each bug back and watching the sweep name it.
Three assertions could not fail. `len(set(MEANINGS)) == len(MEANINGS)`
is true of every dict, so "no two outcomes share a status" was unenforced
— renumbering NO_DEVICE to 4 left all three green while status 3 vanished
from --help. `" " * script.GUTTER in record` reads the constant it
checks, narrowing to `" " in record` exactly when the gutter narrows.
Both are literals now.
The four rule tests read `result.output`, which is stdout and stderr
mixed, while the rules they enforce are about stdout — so a heading that
only ever appeared on stderr would have satisfied them.
And $MESHTERM_HOME is isolated for every test, not just the CLI ones:
--db moves the history and nothing else, so any test touching a store,
a preference or the logger was reading the developer's own directory.

`ruff check --fix` over the whole tree, ahead of putting the linter in CI:
1977 mechanical fixes, overwhelmingly `Optional[X]` → `X | None` (1186 in the
package alone) and the quoted annotations that `from __future__ import
annotations` already made unnecessary, plus import sorting and unused imports.
Nothing here changes behaviour — the suite is 1885 green before and after.
Four findings were real rather than stylistic and are fixed by hand: a dead
`cells` range in `MapCanvas`, a dead slot dict in the heat-ladder test, a
`ProgressScreen` task handle nobody read, and a tab loop binding a `label` it
never used. The two `F821`s were quoted forward references to names imported
inside their function bodies — now declared under `TYPE_CHECKING`, which keeps
`test_performance`'s local import (it guards the startup import graph) while
letting the linter resolve the name.
412 findings remain and are deliberately untouched: they need a decision about
the rule, not an edit to the code.

Every feature paced its own bursts privately, so nothing knew what anything else
had just put on the air, and a wait was a frozen screen -- which on a radio app
reads as a dead link rather than as courtesy.
There is a shared clock now. Every real transmission marks it, in the five send
methods that are the only places the radio is actually spoken to (the simulator
marks the same points, so the whole thing is walkable with no hardware). Anything
about to transmit can ask what is still owed.
Two clocks, because two kinds of transmission cost the mesh very differently. The
general one is the transmit cooldown, whose minimum is now 0.1s -- a floor, not an
off switch; there is no zero for duty-cycle courtesy. Flood adverts get their own,
floored at 5s and defaulting to a minute: every repeater in range rebroadcasts one,
and it waits out both clocks.
Under two seconds the wait just happens -- a dialog that flashes up is itself the
interruption. Over it, a countdown floats over whatever asked: the seconds left,
why it is waiting, and a Cancel chip. Enter and Esc both take it, sharing one hint
atom because they do the one thing on offer, and cancelling abandons the action
rather than merely the wait. It resolves itself at zero.
The suite resets the clock between tests. It is process-wide, which is right for a
session and wrong for a run: one test sending something left a cooldown standing
for the next, whose scripted flow then stopped on a countdown nobody wrote.

A name standing alone above its messages was a coloured word with nothing
to say it was a label — at a glance it read like something someone typed.
It now sits in a chip, and not a chip of its own invention: ui/widgets.
name_chip builds a one-hop PathLine and asks it for its line, so the fill,
the ink, the padding, the rounded cap and the closing point are whatever a
route's segments are wearing today and cannot drift from them. A sender
wears exactly what that node wears as a hop — hue in the fill under dark
ink, the keyless grey where no key places them, and our own messages
headed by the ★ on its neutral grey rather than by the word "you".
Only the group header. An @mention inside a body is part of what was said,
and framing it would put a chip in the middle of a sentence.
Degrading comes free with the borrowing: where the terminal can't draw
separators — the PicoCalc console among them — a path line is arrow text
and one hop is just the name in its hue, which is what a sender label was
before it was framed. The specimen card grows a chips row, which doubles
as a one-hop sample of the route language.
And the unknown sender takes node.unknown rather than muted: one hex apart
here, a whole slot apart on the console, and an unidentified sender is
content you can still act on, not chrome.

Rich honours NO_COLOR by stripping colour while keeping attributes, so
a shell that sets it (agent harnesses do) fails the suite spuriously.
The autouse fixture now deletes it.

One frozen Platform spec (REGULAR/PICOCALC), resolved once at boot
(--platform flag > MESHTERM_PLATFORM env > /proc/device-tree/model
auto-detect > REGULAR) and read via get_platform()/set_platform() -
never a stale `from platforms import PLATFORM`, which the module
docstring calls out. `meshterm platform` reports the resolution and
everything it looked at.
Wires the two correctness bindings that matter before any flavour
work lands: width_reclaim off on PicoCalc's exact-width console
(session._reclaim_last_column, env override still wins), and the
emoji-width calibration probe skipped outright when a platform never
draws emoji.
tests/test_gallery.py renders all 16 screens the interactive menu
opens against REGULAR (72x24) and PICOCALC (53x26 live floor, 53x40
lux case), asserting no line overflows its platform - 35 passing
cases, 13 xfailed as a real P6 worklist (contacts, map, walk,
livefeed, remote_cli, path_composer). Also caught and left alone: the
map screen's footer hint already overflowed the *existing* 72-col
standard before this seam existed, unrelated to picocalc - xfailed
rather than fixed as a drive-by. tests/test_platforms.py unit-tests
the module directly; conftest.py gained an autouse fixture resetting
the platform between tests.

Eleven files defined the same _plain (plus test_chat's _strip_ansi and
test_timemachine's renderable flavour), and two of the copies had
already diverged into join-without-strip. tests/conftest.plain is now
the single strip-and-join reader — a list of lines or a bare string —
and every file imports it; the local variants keep their names so call
sites stay put (housekeeping H-003).

path_line() builds a PathLine from path_text's exact vocabulary (verified
character-for-character in tests), wrapped() carries the composer's
insertion cursor — riding the trailing arrow when its seam is the line
break — and conftest pins MESHTERM_POWERLINE=0 so screen assertions never
depend on which terminal runs the suite.
