Implement SNMP functionality in MyMesh to provide radio diagnostics
and statistics updates. This includes a new method for formatting
radio diagnostic replies and periodic updates to the SNMP agent
with radio stats, enhancing monitoring capabilities for users
with SNMP enabled.
Add support for neighbor discovery and management in the MyMesh class.
This includes structures for neighbor information, methods for handling
neighbor advertisements, and control data reception. The new features
allow for dynamic neighbor management, enhancing the mesh network's
capabilities. Additionally, the maximum number of neighbors is set to
50 across various platform configurations.
Three real regressions from the 2026-07-19 upstream merge, all invisible to the
two prescribed smoke builds:
- heltec_tracker_v2/HeltecTrackerV2Board.cpp: the FEM trio
(setLoRaFemLnaEnabled/canControlLoRaFemLna/isLoRaFemLnaEnabled) was duplicated
verbatim by auto-merge, and upstream's new powerOff() (35f654ce) used
P_LORA_PA_POWER unguarded — a macro defined only for the tracker_v2 envs, while
heltec_tracker_v1_1 compiles the same board file. Guarded it the same way
LoRaFEMControl.cpp already guards that macro.
- SimpleMeshTables.h: the tracker variants pull in TFT_eSPI, whose
TFT_eSPI_ESP32_S3.h defines FS_NO_GLOBALS. That suppresses FS.h's own
'using fs::File', so File never reached global scope and every TU routed
through it failed with "'File' has not been declared" — here and at
simple_repeater/MyMesh.h:158. Restore the using when FS_NO_GLOBALS is set.
Explicit fs::File is not an option: File is also the global type on the
nRF52/RP2040 paths, which have no fs namespace.
- ST7735Display.cpp: upstream's HSPI fix (d30d8ed7) guarded on
HELTEC_LORA_V3 || HELTEC_TRACKER_V2. heltec_tracker_v1_1 matches neither and
fell through to &SPI1, which is not instantiated on ESP32. Added it to the guard.
Also parks LilyGo_TLora_V2_1_1_6_{repeater,room_server}_observer_mqtt with a
trailing underscore (the nibble_screen_connect convention from b8f1fad6), which
also excludes them from the workflows' enumeration regex. That board does NOT
fit and never did: 2,069,397 / 1,966,080 = 105.3% on flex, with no webconfig and
no upstream merge. It has been failing on production all along — the release
ships 30 envs, not 32 — hidden because build.sh does not propagate pio's exit
code. Dropping webconfig would recover ~46 KB of a ~101 KB deficit, so that is
not a fix. Rationale and options in .scratch/tlora-v2-oversize.md.
The 2026-07-19 upstream merge auto-merged two additions into the same class
bodies without conflicting, producing duplicate declarations:
examples/simple_room_server/MyMesh.h - getCADEnabled()
variants/heltec_v4/HeltecV4Board.h - setLoRaFemLnaEnabled(),
canControlLoRaFemLna(),
isLoRaFemLnaEnabled()
Same class of breakage as the RadioLibWrapper::_cad_enabled and
MyMesh::getCADEnabled() duplicates already fixed in the merge commit. These
survived because the merge was validated with the two prescribed MQTT smoke
builds, and neither of them compiles simple_room_server or the heltec_v4
variant - so CI was the first thing to touch the broken files.
Now verified across ALL 32 observer envs locally, not a sample: 32/32 build.
The observer fetches its manifest from <OTA_MANIFEST_BASE>/<OTA_VARIANT>.json,
so that URL IS the release channel. It was hardcoded to the production channel
in 28 identical places across variants/*/platformio.ini, which made a parallel
(e.g. beta) channel impossible: both channels build the same env names, so beta
devices would read the production manifest and silently flash themselves onto
production firmware.
Inject it from build.sh instead, symmetric with OTA_VARIANT (which no .ini
declares), defaulting to the production URL. Set OTA_MANIFEST_BASE_URL to
publish a parallel channel.
Removed from the .ini files rather than overridden: PLATFORMIO_BUILD_FLAGS
cannot reliably override a -D from build_flags, because SCons reorders -U/-D
and the -U can land after both -Ds, leaving the macro undefined. Verified
empirically before choosing this approach.
A default in a header was deliberately NOT added: leaving both macros undefined
on a plain 'pio run' is what keeps ESP32Board.cpp's 'ERR: OTA not configured
(build via build.sh)' guard firing, so locally built firmware is never OTA-armed.
Verified on Heltec_v3_repeater_observer_mqtt:
- plain 'pio run' -> OTA disarmed, no manifest URL in the binary
- build.sh (default) -> https://observer.gessaman.com/v
- OTA_MANIFEST_BASE_URL set -> beta URL only, production URL absent
First upstream merge since the 2026-06-06 base (191 upstream commits). 14 files
conflicted; resolutions below.
Fleet-critical check (Constraint 1): upstream reordered NodePrefs members
(rx_boosted_gain / path_hash_mode moved to the struct tail) but did NOT change
/com_prefs. Persistence is written field-by-field at explicit offsets, so member
order is in-memory only. Verified the fork's writeCommonPrefsImage() is
byte-identical to upstream's inline writer at every offset (79 pad, 121, 122,
290-294). No migration needed.
Resolutions:
- CommonCLI.h: kept the fork's NodePrefs (superset) and adopted upstream's
setRxBoostedGain(bool)->bool signature change, which CommonCLI.cpp now uses to
report unsupported. Corrected a stale comment claiming rx_boosted_gain lives at
offset 79 (it is a pad; the field is at 290).
- CommonCLI.cpp: kept the fork's legacy /com_prefs migration and the extracted
writeCommonPrefsImage() call.
- UITask.cpp: three-way merge - upstream's drawTextCentered + powering-off
screen, plus the fork's WITH_WEBCONFIG portal/reboot screens.
- ESP32Board.cpp, MeshCore.h, platformio.ini: kept both sides (fork OTA additions
alongside upstream powerOff/enterDeepSleep and Packet.cpp).
- MicroNMEALocationProvider.h: took upstream's claim/release and added the
_claims member they depend on.
- MyMesh.cpp/.h (repeater + room server): kept the fork's superset defaults.
- Removed duplicate declarations auto-merge produced: RadioLibWrapper::_cad_enabled
and MyMesh::getCADEnabled().
Verification: native suite 15/15 (incl. upstream's new test_mesh_tables), both
MQTT smoke builds green, ArduinoJson pin check passes. Hardware validation next.
Replace direct JSON construction in MQTTMessageBuilder with calls to
MQTTPayloadBuilder for building status, packet, and raw messages.
This change improves code maintainability and reduces duplication by
centralizing message formatting logic. Additionally, update platformio.ini
to include ArduinoJson dependency for JSON handling.
Include detailed instructions for local testing of observer and WiFi
functionality without hardware. Document the use of a mock backend and
Wokwi ESP32-S3 simulation for easier development and testing.
Enhance the MQTT implementation documentation to improve developer
experience and facilitate testing workflows.
Introduce a web configuration portal for easier node management and
provisioning without serial CLI. Enhance MQTT functionality with
improved IATA code validation, dynamic slot management, and
background NTP synchronization. Update web UI elements for better
user experience and security notes regarding open AP usage.
Without ROOM_PASSWORD the guest password defaults to empty, and a client
sending a blank password is granted read+write access (can post). Every
other board's room_server env sets ROOM_PASSWORD; the ThinkNode M6 and M1
were the only two shipping an open room. Default them to "hello" to match
the rest of the tree; operators can still change it at runtime with
'set guest.password'.
The M6 is the only board whose simple_repeater env ships with MESH_DEBUG=1
and GPS_NMEA_DEBUG=1 enabled. MESH_DEBUG=1 adds a 5-second boot delay
(examples/simple_repeater/main.cpp) plus verbose per-packet serial prints on
the hot RX/TX path; GPS_NMEA_DEBUG=1 echoes every GPS UART character to the
serial console (MicroNMEALocationProvider.h). Every sibling repeater env
(M1, M3, t1000-e, RAK, Heltec) ships these off, and the M6 room_server env
in this same file already has them commented. Comment them out to match.
External watchdog support was added (but never merged) for MeshTower V1. The update's V2's #defines to follow the conventions set there and piggy back off the support already written for V1.
Credit: @yellowcooln (PR #12). Adds Wireless Tracker v1.1 board
def and MQTT observer envs for v1.1/v2; gate FEM control so v1.1
builds without KCT8103L pins.
The 30s "MQTT: Memory" line was useful during the outbox/sync-publish
investigation but is spam for production. Gate the periodic logMemoryStatus()
call in the MQTT task loop behind MQTT_MEMORY_DEBUG (a dedicated diagnostics
flag, not enabled by plain MQTT_DEBUG or production builds) and stop the
heltec_v3 variant from force-enabling MQTT_MEMORY_DEBUG on its observer_mqtt
envs (now commented out to match heltec_v4). logMemoryStatus() itself is kept
intact for opt-in debugging.
Expose the same data on demand via a new `get mqtt.stats` CLI command backed by
MQTTBridge::formatMqttStatsReply(): free/max heap, queue depth, outbox total,
and per-slot publish ok/err counts (1-based, matching the msgs: line). Fits the
160-byte reply buffer at 6 slots; returns "(bridge not running)" when down.
companion_radio has its own NodePrefs without radio_fem_rxgain (matching
upstream, which doesn't wire companion either), so the startup call added in
e905451d broke every companion build:
MyMesh.cpp:973: error: 'struct NodePrefs' has no member named 'radio_fem_rxgain'
It went unnoticed behind the pre-existing companion build failures.
Also port upstream's FEM LNA overrides for heltec_t096 and heltec_tracker_v2
verbatim (board overrides + isLNAEnabled/const getters), so all three boards
upstream wires now match instead of reporting unsupported. Both variant files
compile; those targets still fail overall on the pre-existing non-observer
MQTT-source build-config issue (unchanged with this work stashed).
Completes the FEM RX-gain restoration begun in the CAD/prefs change, which
persisted radio_fem_rxgain but didn't yet drive the hardware. Also dropped
by the 22eb9b87 revert; restored to match upstream.
- MainBoard: setLoRaFemLnaEnabled()/canControlLoRaFemLna()/isLoRaFemLnaEnabled()
virtuals (default: can't control — non-FEM boards report unsupported)
- heltec_v4: board overrides driving loRaFEMControl; LoRaFEMControl gains the
isLNAEnabled() getter (it already tracked lna_enabled and drove the FEM)
- CLI: `set radio.fem.rxgain on/off` / `get radio.fem.rxgain` (guarded by
canControlLoRaFemLna, so it reports "unsupported" on non-FEM boards)
- app startup applies the persisted pref: board.setLoRaFemLnaEnabled(
_prefs.radio_fem_rxgain), beside setRxBoostedGainMode
Default is ON (upstream), so on FEM boards the LNA is enabled after upgrade —
a real reception behavior change to confirm on hardware. The other FEM
variants (heltec_t096/tower_v2/tracker_v2) need the same small board-override
addition; until then `radio.fem.rxgain` reports unsupported there (no
regression — status quo).
Builds: heltec_v4 repeater-observer + room-observer (FEM board), Heltec_v3
repeater (non-FEM, base virtuals no-op). NEEDS on-device validation on a
Heltec V4.
